4. PROGRAM TO IMPROVE HARMONY BETWEEN INDIAN
MUSLIMS and OTHERS
1990: Organized the first convention of Indian Muslim expatriates in
North America in Washington DC Convention attended by about 400 Indian
Muslims from various cities; the Indian ambassador to U.S. (Dr Abid Hussain);
some Muslim leaders from India (Dr Asghar Ali Engineer, Mrs Sultana
Ansari).
1992: - Celebrated Eid-ul-Fitar in an interfaith format.
Representatives of various major religions described the basic tenets of their
religions.
- Co-sponsored a conference of Indian communal harmony activists in
collaboration with India Development Service in Chicago.

Cosponsored with the Indian Journalists Forum, a seminar on
Secularism in Calcutta.
1995: Established collaboration with Indian Muslim Federation,
London, the premier Indian Muslim organization in United Kingdom.
1997: Co-sponsored with other Indian Associations the
celebration of India’s 50th Independence Day.
1999: Organized a lecture and public meeting for Prof Mushirul
Hassan, Prof Mohammad Ayub.
2000: Co-sponsored with other Associations, a seminar on India’s
Nuclear Weapons Program,
2001:
Co-sponsored with other Indian Associations, a public
meeting, addressed by Indian ambassador Lalit Mansingh, and
Indian singer
Pankaj Udhas, to condemn the terrorist attacks in US on
September 11,
and terrorist attacks in India.
2002 - 2006: - Co-sponsored with other Indian community groups,
several communal harmony meetings addressed by Indian activists eg
Admiral Ramdas, Teesta Setalvad.

Co-sponsored a “No War, Peace Vigil” with other Indian and
Pakistani organizations at the Indian and Pakistani Embassies,
at a time when war between the two countries appeared imminent.

Co-sponsored a public communal harmony meeting at University of
Maryland, addressed by well known activist Shabnam Hashmi
from the
renowned Indian communal harmony group, “SAHMAT”.
- Co-sponsored a Symposium on South Asia at the Capitol Hill,
Washington DC, to discuss various issues of interest to the people of South
Asia.
